Cowlicked

See that tuft of hair sticking out on the side of Caelan's neck. I love that spray of hair. That is the perfect storm of hair convergence. There is a ridge of hair that runs down his neck, and a ridge of hair that runs up his neck, to form a swirl. It is a precise circle within a circle. Have you ever seen a BB shot through a window? That is what it looks like. In the very center is a tiny ring of hairless skin. With the length of his lush winter coat it looks to have a bad case of static. In the summer it lays flat. All dogs have markings or identifying features that makes them uniquely them, this is Caelan's. That and the large splotches on his side resembling Micky Mouse ears. Which I am always sorely tempted to glue eyeballs on. Just for kicks. My friends Weimaraner, Starr, has long ears. Taren has a freckle on his lower eyelid. What makes your pup stand out from the pack?

Snow 2010- Oregon Style

Prior to the end of the year we had a snow storm-Oregon style. It lasted all of 30 minutes, maybe. Go ahead and laugh it up my snow bound friends. I'll wait. Hey, rain, not snow is our claim to fame. At least in the Willamette Valley.  So you will have to cut us a little slack. This is my backyard. I live among the trees.

Every time it snows I rush the pups outside, so we don't miss it. I am always woefully unprepared. Summer shoes, of course, all the better to soak up the water, and never a coat to be found in the down stairs closet.  Caelan loves the snow. He always has the zoomies. Weeeeeee!

Now the other way.

Even Taren my water phobe gets in on the fun. They zoomie separately, they zoomie together, they zoomie side by side. Zoom, zoommm, Zoomie.

Caelan is thrilled with the snow.

Taren is over it. Me too. Our feet are wet, our noses are cold, and we are covered in snow. So goes the great snow storm of 2010. Taren and I head in the house and we leave the day to Caelan.

Nap Time

Weimaraner, Taren
Around 3 o'clock every day, I could seriously take a nap. Maybe because I am a life long insomniac and that is when it all catches up with me, or maybe it's that proverbial mid afternoon crash advertisers use to sell us energy drinks, coffee, and other such energizers. Mmmmmm....Coffee sounds really good right now. I rarely indulge in a late afternoon nap, but yesterday I caved in. Maybe it's Winter and it has been chilly, but I threw some pillows on the floor and grabbed one of the zillion blankets we have laying around and laid down on the floor. It did not take long for the pups to follow, as I knew they would. The late afternoon sun streamed through the blinds creating a very inviting picture. Enough so, I wished I had my camera. The wind was blowing and the tops of the oak trees were swaying in the breeze. That was the single most reason we purchased this home nearly five years ago to the day. On the upper floor we have a bonus room, or depending on the region you live in, may call it a family room, or a media room. Nonetheless, we stood in this room to gaze out on nearly an identical afternoon, among the tree tops, only to see a baby deer laying in what would become our backyard. Sold! On this day though, as I laid under the covers I had a speckled dog laying along side me, my arm around him and his head tucked under my chin. Taren was lying on the other side, his head propped up on my leg, both asleep. It was wonderfully warm and comforting and you come to realize this is the stuff life is made of. Simple moments with those you love in the quiet of winters grasp. An afternoon nap- I highly recommend it.

Happy New Year!

Normally on New Years I reflect back on how I spent the past year. What goals I reached, where I have been and where I am headed. I would say in the scheme of things it was a pretty good year. A few ups and downs, a wild close to the end, but I'll bid 2010 a fond adieu, for the most part. The losing weight thing- epic fail. I am taking a more relaxed approach this year. Instead of a Lean Cuisine, I am baking a very naughty lasagna today. The goal making can wait till Monday. However, I am contemplating what direction to take Grey Dog(and his speckled brother too) and that is where you come in.

So what do you think-

More photos, less talk?

Content is good, but share more about the pups owner.

All pups all the time- owner what owner?

Normal photos or artsy ones or a nice mix?

How does she get those photos to look that way, or who cares?

Homemade toys or dog related recipes?

Guest posts- hear from our friends and see their pups?

Surprise us!

I usually post and then go respond to remarks in the comment section. Does that work for you, or would you rather I respond at the end of the post?

All's good, leave it alone for dog sake.

So my friends, let your voice be heard.

Happy New Year, let it be a good one!

The Speckled Wubba

German Shorthaired Pointer Puppy

IHeartDogs asked to see some baby Caelan photos. So who am I to deny her a dose of sweet speckled goodness. Caelan was such a sweetie when he was a baby. Not much has changed, he's just added a dose of bad boy to his daily repertoire, and who can resist a bad boy? Certainly not I. We didn't bring Caelan home till he was three months old, so I don't have any very young photos like I do of Taren. They grow up so fast. I can't believe he will be two in February.
