Good Catch!

Taren is a catcher. He rarely misses. So rare, that it takes me by surprise and is usually a result of my less than stellar throwing ability. I think I am the only person on earth that cannot throw a Frisbee. It seems I cannot master the all elusive *snap*. It either whizzes off into the neighbors yard or hovers, then flops to earth like a dead fish. None the less Taren has learned to compensate. He jumps, he dives, he twists and swivels and his accuracy astounds me. He doesn't wait for it to fall into his mouth, he snatches it from the air with precision, large or small. Frisbee, ball, carrots, popcorn, he catches it all. His freckled brother, not so much. It flies over his head or six feet to the left and he cannot quite bother himself to humor me. He will happily trot after it on landing, but if I cannot throw it to his standards, he will not catch it. The thing is Caelan, at 18 months, is learning the error of his ways as waiting in the wing is his brother who has his eye on the prize, who likes to snatch and run, and the chase is on. It makes for good times.

As always, textures compliments of the ever generous and talented Jerry Jones.

You Get It

This photo was taken last summer when Caelan was just a puppy. It was the second of such pools to grace our deck. Taren was apparently just as enthused with this years tropical themed selection as he was with the prior years that had been relegated to the deer . The deer were grateful for a cool drink in the summers sweltering heat even as our grey pup bid his good riddance. The boys circled the pool watching the ball float and bob and the message was clearly visible, You get it, No *YOU* get it, and so the summer went. I floated toys and treats. I begged, bribed, and cajoled and they simply weren't going to get their feet wet no matter how hot. Fast forward this summer and I once again filled the pool with high hopes. Taren looked at me with the pity you reserve for the not too bright, bordering on completely mad. Caelan however, stepped in, stuck his head deep into the water, snorkeled around and scooped up his treat off the bottom of the pool. I shot Taren a smug look of triumph. HA! Caelan loves the pool he wanders in and out all day long. Taren still has yet to get his feet wet, but deigns to use is as a very large if not obnoxiously bright water bowl.

The Serious Side

Weimaraner
My handsome boy, Taren. Resident wonder Weim, stuffie sucker, cat chaser, power napper and all around momma's boy. You can add awesome ball chaser, Frisbee catcher, and napkin stealer to his many charms as well. He's a good boy.

Yours Is Mine

Dogs around the world are known for their, if it's yours it's mine, theory of life. It certainly applies with my two boys. Caelan also like to extend those beliefs to his humans. The boys are inside dogs, but they like to go outside during the day to lay in the sun, stalk the squirrels, snorkel in their pool, or watch the deer. There is only one way to the backyard and that is through the French doors off the kitchen. Which leads to the deck and is entirely fenced. I supervise them while they are outside, my desk being strategically located in front of a large window just for this reason. I can see the entire backyard from this location, except one very small corner of the deck right as you come out the doors. Housed in this corner is a planter box, home to a lush sage plant that winters over. Its a beauty, large and too heavy to move. Well, it used to be. Caelan has systematically whittled it down to something that resembles Charlie Browns Christmas tree. He doesn't eat it, he just likes to yank the branches off leaving a trail to the kitchen, being the little helper that he is. I pick up the branches, wash off the slobber and dry the leaves for future use. Lately he has been taking mercy on my plant, or perhaps its just been too hot for wanton destruction. LOL None the less it has been looking pretty good in a sad sack manner of speaking. Fast forward yesterday. The boys come in the house and they come straight away to get some momma loving. Caelan likes to drape himself across my lap, lay his head on my chest and watch the squirrels from the window. I like to mindlessly stroke his silken ears and sniff his head. The boys always smell like fresh air and sunshine. Except for today, when his head smelled like sage....
